“Storm Goretti Strikes UK: 100mph Winds, Red Warnings & Snow Alerts”

Incredible live video captures the forceful winds lashing Britain as Storm Goretti gains strength. The Met Office has issued a rare red wind warning for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, cautioning about hazardous gales up to 100mph, posing a severe risk to life from airborne debris. Webcam feeds across Britain show high waves hitting the south coast.

Multiple Met Office alerts for rain, snow, and ice are in effect in various regions of the UK tonight, as the storm transforms into wintry conditions in the Midlands and the north.

Emergency alerts have been activated in the most vulnerable ‘red’ areas affected by Storm Goretti, triggering loud alarm signals on mobile phones. The Cabinet Office announces a red warning for the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall until 11 pm on Thursday, January 8.

Neil Armstrong, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, explains the looming dangers of Storm Goretti, predicting extreme gusts exceeding 100mph in the red warning zone. Wales, the Midlands, and parts of northern England are expected to face heavy snow, causing significant disruptions.

Goretti is forecasted to bring substantial snowfall, especially over Wales and the Midlands, with accumulations of 10-15 cm widespread and up to 20-30 cm in certain areas, particularly in elevated regions. An Amber warning is issued for Thursday night into Friday morning, urging residents in affected areas to stay informed and heed advice from local authorities.
