A person is in critical condition following a shooting incident with United States Border Patrol close to the Mexico border. The FBI is investigating an alleged assault on a federal officer near Arivaca, Arizona, which is a known route for drug traffickers and illegal migrants. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was shot in southern Pima County near milepost 15 of West Arivaca Road this morning. The Santa Rita Fire District responded to the scene and provided initial treatment before transferring the injured person to a regional trauma center via a medical helicopter.
The hospital in Tucson and authorities have not disclosed any details about the victim or the suspect involved in the shooting. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the FBI. The sheriff’s department urged the community to be patient as the investigation progresses, emphasizing the complexity of such inquiries. The incident reportedly involved a Border Patrol agent and a suspect, prompting collaboration between the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and federal authorities.
This incident adds to a series of shootings, including two fatalities, involving immigration officers under the Department of Homeland Security in Minnesota this month. House Democrats, Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar, have accused the Trump administration of misusing taxpayer funds for lethal actions against American citizens and threatened impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem if not removed from office.
In response, President Donald Trump indicated that he had no intentions of dismissing Noem when questioned by reporters at the White House. He dispatched his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minneapolis for discussions with local officials.
