Slovakia’s Prime Minister, a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, has reportedly expressed astonishment to fellow EU leaders after a recent encounter with the US President, expressing concerns about his mental state. Robert Fico, known for endorsing Trump’s criticisms of the EU, has raised worries about the “psychological condition” of the US leader, as shared by two European diplomats privy to the discussion.
During a meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on January 17, Fico allegedly described Trump as “dangerous.” Fico shared his observations with leaders and officials at an informal gathering in Brussels on January 22, where discussions revolved around Trump’s controversial statements regarding Greenland, according to Politico.
Multiple sources, including diplomats from various EU countries and a senior EU official, confirmed the concerns raised by Fico about Trump’s demeanor. One diplomat suggested that Fico appeared “traumatized” post the meeting, while another mentioned that Fico referred to Trump as “unstable,” as recounted by a participant in the Brussels conversation.
Responding to these claims, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly dismissed them as “total fake news” propagated by anonymous European diplomats seeking relevance. She emphasized that the meeting at Mar-a-Lago was positive and fruitful.
The Mirror sought comments from Robert Fico’s representatives on the matter. Fico, a vocal Trump supporter within Europe, previously lauded the US President’s contributions to the continent during the Conservative Political Action Conference last year.
A senior administration official present at the Mar-a-Lago meeting contradicted the negative portrayal, describing the interaction as devoid of any awkward or tense moments, characterized by a “pleasant” and “normal” exchange.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, Fico portrayed the meeting as a display of “high respect and trust” from Trump. While the discussion details were not disclosed, Fico indicated that talks encompassed topics such as Ukraine.
The article also quoted a diplomat expressing growing concerns among European leaders and officials regarding Trump’s erratic behavior. An EU official involved in political dialogues highlighted mounting discussions about Trump’s health across various levels.
Trump has consistently refuted claims of cognitive impairment or health issues, explicitly denying any signs of Alzheimer’s in a recent interview with New York Magazine.
