“Medvedev Disqualified After Hitting Spectator with Ball”

In the China Open semifinal match in Beijing, Daniil Medvedev accidentally hit a spectator with a ball, leading to his disqualification against Novak Djokovic. The spectator was seen holding his left eye in discomfort while Medvedev expressed regret and hoped for the spectator’s well-being.

The incident occurred as Djokovic was serving for the match, and Medvedev, in frustration, hit the ball into the stands. Medvedev clarified that it was unintentional and that he was trying to keep the ball in play. Following the incident, he gestured an apology and remained on the court.

Medvedev, known for past behavioral issues, accepted the disqualification without much protest. Djokovic, understanding the situation, expressed sympathy for both the spectator and Medvedev, recalling his own disqualification at the 2020 U.S. Open.

Djokovic continued his unbeaten record at the China Open, setting up a final against Alex de Minaur. Medvedev’s opponent, Hurkacz, retired due to injury, advancing De Minaur to the final.

In another tournament, Carlos Alcaraz made a strong comeback after an injury layoff, winning his semifinal match in the Japan Open against Jaume Munar. Alcaraz will face Jiri Lehecka in the final, aiming to defend his title.

Elena Rybakina, the U.S. Open champion, withdrew from the Wuhan Open due to a foot injury following her early exit in Beijing. Alina Charaeva continued her impressive form by advancing in the tournament after defeating Sonay Kartal.
