David Bowie’s Daughter Disappointed by Lack of Support on Late Icon’s Birthday

David Bowie’s daughter recently expressed disappointment over her friends’ lack of communication on what would have been the late music icon’s 79th birthday. Bowie passed away in 2016 at his New York City residence, leaving behind his wife Iman and daughter Lexi Jones, after a private battle with liver cancer shortly following his 69th birthday.

Iman and Lexi both honored the iconic star on his birthday with heartfelt social media posts that received an outpouring of support. However, Lexi, aged 24, publicly criticized her inner circle for overlooking the significance of the date, especially given its proximity to the tenth anniversary of her father’s death.

In an Instagram post, Lexi thanked unknown well-wishers but expressed frustration towards her friends for not reaching out at all. She conveyed her disappointment, stating she received only one text message.

Lexi, also known as Alexandria Zahra Jones, previously shared a nostalgic photo with her father, captioned with a heartfelt message. This incident follows Lexi’s recent revelation of her autism diagnosis, a journey marked by challenges and a struggle to belong.

Having spent a substantial amount seeking professional help, Lexi was formally diagnosed with autism and ADHD. She disclosed her diagnosis in June, highlighting the relief and clarity it brought her after years of concealing her neurodivergence, which had left her feeling drained and isolated.

In a candid essay titled “The Quiet Effort: Neurodivergence through my lens,” Lexi detailed her lifelong sense of difference and the toll of masking her true self. She expressed feeling drained from the performance of blending in and the impact it had on her self-identity and confidence.

Lexi’s openness about her diagnosis aims to shed light on the diverse manifestations of autism and the challenges faced by individuals, particularly women, socialized to mask their neurodivergence. Her story emphasizes the importance of acceptance and understanding for those navigating similar experiences.
