A new and innovative concept in Guelph that combines lawn bowling, beer, live music, and summer evenings is gaining traction. Brothers Brewing, situated on Wyndham Street in downtown Guelph, faced challenges due to a significant construction project that hindered the opening of their summer patio, leading to a decline in foot traffic.
To counter this setback, the brewery launched a beer garden at the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club earlier this summer. This collaboration has been mutually beneficial for both the brewery and the club. Colton Proveau, co-owner of Brothers Brewing, emphasized the necessity of partnering with the club as brewery sales have decreased by approximately 50%.
The beer garden initiative at the bowling club has been well-received and has provided a much-needed boost for Brothers Brewing during tough times. Blake Skinner, the club’s president, highlighted the added fun element and the influx of newcomers to the sport due to the presence of the beer garden.
The partnership has garnered support from local residents like Mathew and Jenna Holdom, who have been regulars at Brothers Brewing. The introduction of lawn bowling at the beer garden has piqued their interest, and they have become members of the club, intending to continue their patronage in the coming years amidst ongoing downtown construction.
Longtime lawn bowler Emily Gibson expressed her enthusiasm for the beer garden, noting a significant increase in turnout compared to previous years. She commended the vibrant atmosphere created by Brothers Brewing and welcomed the influx of new players, including younger demographics, ensuring the longevity of the sport.
Overall, the beer garden concept has not only provided a refreshing alternative amidst construction disruptions but also revitalized interest in lawn bowling, attracting a diverse range of patrons and fostering a sense of community engagement.
