The Toronto Blue Jays placed six-time All-Star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the seven-day injured list due to concussion symptoms and called up outfielder Daz Cameron from Triple-A Buffalo. In a corresponding move, right-hander Lazaro Estrada was designated for assignment to make space on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, the Blue Jays recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and sent right-hander Chase Lee to Triple-A. Guerrero exited Friday’s game against the Yankees after colliding with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a play at third base in the sixth inning.
Lombard attempted to jump over Guerrero as he slid into third base, resulting in Lombard’s knee and thigh making contact with Guerrero’s head, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the next inning.
Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who holds a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, will be monitored as he recovers from the concussion.
Meanwhile, Tiedemann posted a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA across seven games, including two starts, spanning three minor league levels this season.
