Coronation Street’s Megan actress, Beth Nixon, recently shared her experience of almost portraying a different character before landing her current role. Making her debut on the popular ITV soap last year, Beth plays the role of Will Driscoll’s athletics coach, who relocated with his family to Weatherfield from Hull.
Will’s family, including his father Ben, grandmother Maggie, and Ben’s girlfriend Eva Price, are unaware of Megan’s hidden agenda of grooming Will before his arrival. Megan, now working at Weatherfield High School, has also kindled a romantic relationship with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne, causing tension with Will.
In a recent episode, Daniel invited Megan to his son Bertie’s birthday celebration, further developing their relationship. While Megan’s character has sparked controversy among viewers, Beth Nixon revealed in an interview that she initially auditioned for a different role on the show.
Having auditioned twice before for villainous roles, including the part of Lauren, Beth was eventually cast as Megan after a rigorous selection process. The casting team was impressed with her performance during a chemistry test and a scene rehearsal at The Bistro. For Beth, who previously worked as a skin clinic manager, landing the role on Coronation Street was a significant career breakthrough after years of pursuing acting.
The actress expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, mentioning that the role came at a crucial time when she was considering a career change. Beth’s dedication to her craft paid off, marking her first television role since graduating from drama school. Coronation Street fans can catch the show airing on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm.
