“Amazon Launches Rapid Grocery Delivery Service Amazon Now”

Amazon, the online retail giant, has introduced its rapid grocery delivery service, promising to deliver orders in under 30 minutes. Customers can choose from a wide selection of groceries and household essentials, ranging from milk and eggs to diapers and medications.

This move puts Amazon in direct competition with supermarkets that already offer similar ultra-fast delivery services through partnerships with delivery firms. The decision to launch this service comes after Amazon announced the closure of its Amazon Fresh grocery stores last September.

The new service, called Amazon Now, is currently being tested in specific postcodes in the Southwark area of London, utilizing bike delivery. Amazon plans to expand this service to more areas in the coming months, with riders being recruited through Amazon Flex, a program where they are not directly employed.

Amazon UK’s country manager, John Boumphrey, highlighted the convenience and speed of Amazon Now in a blog post, emphasizing the company’s dedication to providing fast delivery services to its customers. This initiative follows Amazon’s partnership with Gopuff last July, aiming to deliver a wide range of products within 60 minutes, with some items available in as little as 15 minutes.

Prime members can enjoy discounted delivery fees starting from £1.99 per order with Amazon Now, compared to £3.99 for non-members. Additionally, a £2 fee applies to orders under £15 for all customers. Amazon reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the shopping experience for customers in the UK, promising further updates on the service in the upcoming months.

Amazon’s shift towards online delivery services aligns with its strategic focus following the closure of its physical grocery stores in the UK. The company cited a thorough evaluation of business operations and the significant growth opportunities in online delivery as reasons for this decision. Despite the closure of its brick-and-mortar stores, Amazon continues to expand its online grocery and household essentials offerings, emphasizing its commitment to meeting customer needs effectively.
