The Nepal Red Cross Society has shifted its focus to large-scale relief operations in flood-hit districts, assisting around 1,200 displaced individuals from multiple villages. In Tibet, a mudslide near Gyirong Port has caused extensive damage, with roads leading to the port severely affected.
Experts believe the flash floods were triggered by an avalanche from a glacier, highlighting the increased risk of such events due to melting glaciers in the region. The Hindu Kush Himalaya region has experienced accelerated glacier melting, attributed to human-induced climate change. The vulnerability of the area to flooding and landslides underscores the urgent need for climate action and disaster preparedness.
