“UK Launches ‘Fuel Finder’ to Slash Petrol Costs”

Millions of drivers are set to benefit from a new government initiative aimed at reducing fuel costs. The initiative mandates that all of the nearly 8,350 fuel stations in the UK must notify third-party websites and apps within 30 minutes of changing their petrol and diesel prices. This real-time price transparency is expected to help consumers save significant amounts over time, potentially totaling hundreds of pounds annually.

The newly launched ‘Fuel Finder’ program covers all petrol stations and enforces strict guidelines on timely and accurate price updates. Non-compliant operators risk facing penalties of up to 1% of their global annual revenue. The initiative addresses concerns about inflated fuel prices and aims to empower consumers to make informed decisions about where to refuel.

Edmund King, the president of the motoring group AA, highlighted the benefits of this initiative, emphasizing that drivers can now easily locate the best fuel prices nearby. He anticipates a shift towards more competitive pricing similar to other European countries, where consumers rely on mobile apps and in-car information screens to find the most cost-effective refueling options.

Simon Williams, the head of policy at RAC, expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential to promote price competition among retailers, ultimately leading to lower fuel prices nationwide. With more fuel stations providing daily price updates, drivers can conveniently identify the most affordable options through their preferred apps or navigation systems.

Currently, the average price for unleaded petrol across the country is 132.1p per liter, while diesel stands at 141.2p per liter. The initiative aims to create a more transparent and competitive fuel market, benefiting consumers across the UK.
