A surgeon allegedly made threatening remarks to his former spouse before fatally shooting her and her new husband, as reported by law enforcement. The incident occurred in Columbus, Ohio, where Spencer Tepe, 37, was discovered dead at his residence on December 30, with Monique, 39, found shortly after. Michael McKee, a surgeon from Illinois and Monique’s ex-husband, was apprehended on January 10 and charged with aggravated murder and burglary.
McKee, if convicted, could face a life sentence in prison and has pleaded not guilty to all accusations. Witnesses reported that McKee had previously threatened Monique, asserting that he could harm her whenever he pleased and even suggested he would live near her. Additionally, Monique claimed that McKee had subjected her to physical abuse and non-consensual intercourse.
Security footage allegedly captured McKee unlawfully entering the couple’s home weeks before the tragic event, while they were away. Monique, who left the Big Ten Championship football game early due to distress involving her ex-husband, had been married to McKee for two years about a decade ago. After their divorce, Monique married Spencer in 2021, with whom she had two children.
The emergency responders found the couple still alive at the scene, but they succumbed to their injuries. The firearm used in the crime was reportedly fitted with a silencer. The couple was remembered by friends and family as having a loving and joyous relationship. A family statement expressed the commitment to seek justice for the victims and safeguard the well-being of their children.
A close acquaintance of the deceased couple described them as warm, friendly, and universally liked individuals. The community mourned the loss of Spencer and Monique, highlighting their amicable and welcoming nature.
