Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to create more records this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month after enrolling in the World Seniors Snooker Championship.
At 50 years old, O’Sullivan continues to be a fierce competitor on the snooker tour, facing off against players now active on the senior circuit. He will strive to secure his eighth championship victory when he competes in his 34th consecutive World Championship in the upcoming spring.
Making his debut appearance in the senior tournament held in Yorkshire from May 6, O’Sullivan’s participation has been confirmed by the World Seniors Snooker Tour. Described as the sport’s most commercially successful and captivating figure, O’Sullivan is expected to headline the event featuring the strongest field ever assembled for a World Seniors competition.
Joining O’Sullivan at the event will be other world champions including Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, and Ken Doherty. Additionally, notable players such as Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and Tony Drago will be part of the competitive lineup.
Jason Francis, Chairman of the World Seniors Snooker Tour, expressed excitement about O’Sullivan’s debut, emphasizing the significant impact his participation will have on ticket sales and overall event interest. The relaxed rules introduced by the World Snooker Tour after the 2025 World Championship now permit professional players aged 45 or older and ranked in the top 64 to compete in the veterans’ circuit.
O’Sullivan, with seven world titles to his name, aims to add to his collection after his last victory in 2022, equaling Stephen Hendry’s record. Hendry, acknowledging O’Sullivan’s talent, has expressed his support for O’Sullivan’s pursuit of an eighth world title, emphasizing the importance of winning at a young age in his own career.
Looking ahead, fans and enthusiasts eagerly anticipate O’Sullivan’s performance at the upcoming World Seniors Snooker Championship, set to bring together a stellar lineup of seasoned players and promising talent to compete for the prestigious title.
