Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to create history by facing off in the first-ever professional boxing match at The Las Vegas Sphere in September. This rematch comes after their epic showdown in 2015, known as the ‘Fight of the Century,’ where Mayweather emerged as the victor. Despite both fighters retiring, they are now gearing up for a highly anticipated rematch.
Netflix has officially confirmed that Mayweather Pacquiao II is scheduled for September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere. This event marks another major deal for Netflix, following their successful coverage of Anthony Joshua’s fight against Jake Paul in December.
The upcoming Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch is poised to be one of the most financially rewarding bouts in boxing history. Their previous encounter at the MGM Grand Garden Arena generated a staggering £4.6 million in pay-per-view buys and set a record gate of $72.2 million (£53.5 million).
Mayweather reportedly earned $250 million (£185.3 million) from their initial fight, while Pacquiao took home $150 million (£111.2 million). Mayweather, with an undefeated 50-0 record, will put his legacy on the line in this rematch, which is expected to be a professionally sanctioned event.
Following the rematch announcement, Pacquiao expressed his excitement, stating, “The fans have waited long enough—they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix.” He is determined to hand Mayweather his first professional defeat and bring pride to the Philippines.
In response, Mayweather confidently stated, “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.” Both fighters are anticipated to have warm-up fights before their showdown, with Pacquiao facing Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather likely to take on Mike Tyson.
The Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch will headline The Sphere, making it the first boxing event and the second sports event overall at the venue. UFC 306 was the first sports event held at The Sphere in September 2024.
