A resident living near Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old US citizen who was shot by federal agents, disclosed that Pretti was a member of their local “Signal ICE” group chat. Jeanne Massey, a community outreach worker, mentioned that Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, resided just a street away from her. Pretti was associated with the Kingfield signal ICE watch group, a group of local volunteers who quickly respond to sightings of ICE agents in the area.
The ICE Watch group, which includes Massey and Pretti among its members, consists of numerous volunteers. Massey’s primary role involves coordinating rapid responses when ICE activity is noticed in the neighborhood. She alerts residents and witnesses any unfolding events. It remains unclear what specific role Pretti played in the group.
Expressing the sentiments of her community, Massey stated, “We are appalled, outraged, and refuse to overlook the reality – another tragic act of violence perpetrated by federal agents in our city. This marks the third shooting incident during recent enforcement operations, further devastating our efforts for justice and safety.”
Massey disclosed that she was one of many Minneapolis locals who hurried to the scene of the fatal shooting. She recounted witnessing ICE officers dispersing tear gas into the crowd. The tragic events of Saturday risk overshadowing the previous day’s display of unity when thousands marched through Minneapolis streets.
Reflecting on Friday’s protest, Massey emphasized its significance for all individuals living without fear, not just for immigrant neighbors. She emphasized the need for accountability and an end to federal agents’ unchecked use of force. Despite the prevailing fear, the people of Minnesota remain steadfast in their refusal to retreat.
“We will not be silenced, intimidated, or back down,” Massey affirmed. “The resistance is not only growing but also filled with anger and determination. It is imperative to halt these operations immediately and remove these agents from Minnesota.”
