“Manhattan S4-R TV Recorder Challenges Sky Q Dominance”

Sky Q has long been a popular choice for TV viewers in the UK, known for its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. Despite its enduring popularity, a new competitor has entered the scene with a significant advantage.

Manhattan’s TV Team has introduced the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder, a device that operates similarly to Sky Q by using a satellite dish to deliver content and offering storage for recordings. Users can enjoy features like an interactive TV guide and the ability to pause live broadcasts.

One standout feature of the Manhattan S4-R is its lack of subscription fees after purchase, providing access to over 100 free TV and radio channels. While premium content like Sky Sports and Sky Cinema is not available, this device offers a cost-effective entertainment solution.

Similar to Sky Q, the S4-R allows simultaneous recording of multiple channels and comes with a 500GB hard drive, offering storage for approximately 300 hours of content. Larger 1TB and 2TB versions are planned for release soon to accommodate users needing more space. It also includes features like live TV controls for pausing and rewinding broadcasts.

The device boasts a user-friendly interface, search functionality, and access to a wide range of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.

Alex Arbab-Zadeh, Manhattan’s COO, emphasized that the S4-R enhances recording capabilities, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings, double the previous limit. He positioned the S4-R as a compelling alternative to subscription-based TV services, offering more flexibility and choice without the burden of monthly bills.

The Manhattan S4-R is set to launch this month and will be available at retailers such as Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. The pricing starts at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version priced at £249.99 in May and the 2TB model at £279.99 in June.
