A celebrated jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a horse that fell on her. Sonja Logan, a prominent figure in the racing world, faced a brutal attack in 2023 during an attempted car theft. The assailants violently assaulted her, causing multiple injuries including a broken nose, lacerated lip, and shattered front teeth just weeks before her wedding.
Expressing the excruciating pain she endured as the horse, Jumping Power Two, toppled over her, Logan described it as the most intense agony she had ever experienced. The incident occurred as the horse, trained by her husband Tommy and previously victorious in four consecutive races under her guidance, became startled by an unknown stimulus.
Following the accident, Logan underwent medical treatment, including surgery to repair her crushed pelvis with screws and a metal plate. She recounted how fortunate she was that the impact did not result in fatal rib injuries, acknowledging the significant internal bleeding risks associated with such fractures.
Despite the challenging recovery process, Logan is currently at home, aided by a walking frame as she recuperates. Looking ahead, she remains optimistic about returning to racing, aiming for a comeback within six to eight months pending successful healing and rehabilitation.
Prior to this incident, Logan had faced adversity after the carjacking incident but managed to resume her racing career, achieving notable success in competitions. Behind the scenes, however, she grappled with mental health struggles, which she overcame by embracing competitive bodybuilding and seeking support from her network during her recent setback.
Reflecting on her resilience, Logan highlighted the stark contrast in emotions between the accidental horse incident and her deliberate assault, emphasizing the innocence of the animal involved. Grateful for the unwavering support of her loved ones, especially her husband, who has been instrumental in her recovery, Logan remains determined to overcome the challenges and pursue her passion for riding.
