Frankie Dettori concluded his illustrious career on a high note by achieving victory in Brazil, clinching the initial segment of the country’s Triple Crown. Initially planning to retire at Ascot’s Champions Day in October 2023, the 55-year-old had a change of heart and opted to prolong his racing journey in the United States.
In November, Dettori confirmed that his retirement would come following the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar, culminating in a brief farewell tour in South America, concluding at Rio de Janeiro’s Gavea racecourse on Sunday. He triumphed in two races, first aboard Speak Alpha and then Bet You Can in the Brazilian 2,000 Guineas, the Grande Premio Estado do Rio De Janeiro, allowing him the opportunity to execute his signature flying dismount celebration.
Reflecting on his final Group 1 win on his last day, Dettori expressed his surprise and emotional fulfillment, stating, “It’s been brilliant. I never expected to win a Group 1 on my last day.” He further added, “I enjoyed everything. I’ve had a beautiful career, and I’m blessed to walk away unscathed.”
While acknowledging the end of his jockey career, Dettori revealed his plans to stay involved in racing by accepting a role as a global ambassador for Amo Racing, led by Kia Joorabchian. In a social media message to his fans, he shared his gratitude for the sport that has been his life for nearly four decades, highlighting the invaluable experiences, connections, and memories he has accumulated along the way.
Dettori extended his appreciation to his family, the racing community, and his dedicated fans for their unwavering support throughout his remarkable journey, concluding with heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you for letting a young boy live his dream.”
