ITV host Rishi Persad shared a chilling experience of witnessing a missile attack during a horse racing event in Dubai, UAE. Persad recounted that while on air with co-presenter Angus McNae, they noticed cameramen reacting to something in the sky. They turned to see a red light streaking through the sky followed by explosions, sending a shiver down Persad’s spine. Despite the alarming situation, the horse racing event continued as they carried on with their presenting duties.
The 52-year-old expressed his concerns about the safety of his family back home, particularly his wife Holly and daughter Evie. Stranded in Dubai due to flight cancellations amid the ongoing conflict, Persad is eager to return to the UK for his wife’s upcoming birthday and to fulfill his presenting commitments at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. ITV has been informed of his situation.
Initially unaware of the conflict, Persad learned about the situation from fellow presenter Megan Nicholls. The Dubai Racing Club assured the safety of the event after consulting with UAE officials, allowing the racing activities to proceed. Despite missile attacks on prominent Dubai landmarks, Persad found reassurance in the presence of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum at the race meeting.
With hopes to return to the UK soon, Persad remains focused on his responsibilities despite the tense circumstances. Last Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced the commencement of “major combat operations” in Iran by the US and Israeli militaries.
