Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that nine casualties and over 80 injuries resulted from Russian drone assaults across Ukraine. Among the casualties were two victims in the attack on the Academy of Sciences building in Kyiv, with emergency services later confirming the recovery of one body from beneath the rubble.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko disclosed that 24 individuals sustained injuries in multiple attacks on the city, with six currently receiving medical care in hospitals. The city experienced multiple assaults, triggering sirens, billowing smoke, and continuous air raid alerts throughout the day.
Recent developments have seen Russia employing faster, high-flying jet drones in their attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Zelenskyy addressed the challenge of countering these advanced drones, noting that a significant portion of the drones used against Ukraine were jet-propelled, leading to an interception rate of 57 percent. Efforts are underway to enhance defense capabilities against these sophisticated aerial threats.
The escalating conflict also saw attacks on various targets, including a pharmaceutical company, petrol stations, and a medical facility in Kyiv, along with assaults on civilian infrastructure and communications networks in other regions. Zelenskyy highlighted intelligence reports indicating Russia’s military mobilization efforts, urging international action to counter recruitment tactics employed by Moscow.
In separate incidents, casualties were reported in Dnipro and Synelnykove due to Russian drone strikes, extending the scope of attacks to include economic targets such as data centers and telecom facilities. The ongoing hostilities have drawn condemnation from Ukrainian officials, with calls for stronger responses and increased air defense support from allies.
The situation remains dire as both sides engage in military actions, with Russia denying claims of a new mobilization while Ukraine continues to retaliate against Russian assets.
