The increase in scams is a growing concern, with significant financial losses reported daily in the UK due to cybercriminal activities. To combat this, EE has revealed an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service designed to block more fraudulent attempts directed at mobile phones.
This updated service is accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile subscribers for a monthly fee of £2, providing an added layer of security for those worried about falling victim to scams.
While the additional cost may seem burdensome, EE assures customers that the improved protection it offers is well worth the investment.
EE highlights that since its initial launch in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attacks.
With the upgraded version of Scam Guard set to roll out over the next year, EE anticipates doubling the number of prevented scams using this service.
So, what are the functionalities of this enhanced system and how does it operate?
At the core of the new Scam Guard lies AI Triple-Lock Protection, a set of three advanced safety features powered by Norton’s Genie AI technology, aimed at safeguarding customers.
These features include Safe Email, offering continuous proactive protection against scams in email inboxes. Additionally, Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI to identify intricate scams in text messages, ensuring customers receive real-time protection and peace of mind when checking their messages. Safe Web is also integrated, using AI to shield customers from online scams while shopping or browsing, preventing harm by blocking malicious websites.
The new Scam Guard upgrade by EE introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to upload screenshots of texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or QR codes for instant evaluation on their safety. Moreover, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring are included to monitor suspicious activities across a customer’s online presence, issuing prompt alerts for immediate action.
Commenting on the update, Malcolm Cubitt, Director of Product, Mobile at EE, emphasized the surge in fraudulent activities in the UK, driven by AI technology making scams more sophisticated and harder to detect. Cubitt reiterated EE’s commitment to protecting customers by continuously evolving their security measures and introducing innovative solutions like the enhanced Scam Guard service to enhance cybersecurity protection for subscribers.
