A former Saskatoon police officer dismissed due to a connection with a Hells Angels affiliate is currently seeking reinstatement. Robbie Taylor, a former sergeant, is appealing the decision made by Police Chief Cam McBride in March 2025. Taylor’s lawyers, Scott Hopley and Brian Pfefferle, argued against the dismissal during an appeal hearing in front of a three-member panel of the Saskatchewan Police Commission in Saskatoon.
One of the key issues raised during the appeal is an allegation of an abuse of process, which had also been brought up during a hearing in September 2025. The allegation relates to a complaint received by then-police chief Troy Cooper in 2023 regarding Taylor’s involvement in a traffic stop of a friend associated with the Hells Angels.
Although Cooper chose not to take any disciplinary action, Taylor’s legal team only learned about this decision during McBride’s testimony at the September hearing. This lack of disclosure was criticized by Hopley as an unfair tactic that hindered the preparation for the hearing.
Ashley Smith, representing the Saskatoon Police Service, argued that there was no formal document regarding Cooper’s decision not to pursue disciplinary action to share with Taylor’s lawyers. Despite acknowledging the relevance of the information, Smith maintained that it was not in a disclosable form. She emphasized that Taylor should have been aware that maintaining a friendship with an individual linked to organized crime was unacceptable.
The debate over whether Taylor’s dismissal was justified due to a breach of trust between him and McBride, as well as the necessity of upholding public trust in the police service, was also a focal point. The panel overseeing the case, consisting of Aaron Fox, Leanne Lang, and John Ajioritis, has yet to reach a decision on Taylor’s appeal.
