Moise Bombito revealed that a discussion with Canadian national team coach Jesse Marsch led to his decision. Despite physical discomfort, the 26-year-old defender was determined not to miss the FIFA World Cup in his homeland.
Nice, his club team in France, announced that Bombito will undergo surgery on his left tibia once more. Chronic pain in his leg prompted further evaluation, resulting in the need for surgery.
In an interview with Nice, Bombito shared, “The national team coach informed me of the urgency and potential opportunity to participate in the World Cup held in my hometown. Without hesitation, I committed to representing my country, despite my leg’s condition.”
After fracturing his tibia on October 5, Bombito returned to play for Canada during the summer tournament. Despite struggling with the injury, he managed to participate in several matches, including a full 90-minute game against South Africa.
Expressing his disappointment, Bombito acknowledged the challenges he faced due to the injury. He emphasized his determination to recover fully and contribute at his best level in the future.
Upon his return to Nice, Bombito continued to experience discomfort and pain but postponed surgery to assess the necessity. He described the persistent pain as hindering his daily activities and expressed eagerness to undergo the procedure for long-term relief.
Transitioning to Nice in 2024 from the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer, Bombito made a significant impact in his initial season, playing 35 matches before injury setbacks in the following season.
