“Cristiano Ronaldo hints at retirement in Saudi Pro League”

Cristiano Ronaldo has indicated that the current Saudi Pro League season might mark the conclusion of his illustrious playing career. The 41-year-old football icon’s contract with Al-Nassr in Riyadh, signed in December 2022, is set to expire next June, with Ronaldo expressing doubts about extending it.

“I believe this could be my final year in football, and I aim to leave behind a remarkable legacy,” Ronaldo shared with Vogue magazine. The Portuguese forward, known for scoring 976 career goals, recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

“I have my future all planned out,” Ronaldo stated. “I have numerous endeavors to occupy my time as football’s absence could create a void that needs filling in various ways, not just one.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner continued, “I plan to have more enjoyment, travel extensively, engage in padel, which I truly enjoy, and continue relishing the fruits of my labor—for both of us. It’s been a demanding 25-year journey.”

Ronaldo, in his 25th professional season during the 2026-27 SPL campaign, helped Al-Nassr clinch the Saudi Arabian championship last season with 28 league goals. This victory marked his first trophy since joining the club and the first league title for Al-Nassr since 2019.

Following his recent wedding, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s opening match of the season, where they secured a 3-0 victory against Al-Fateh. Coach Ange Postecoglou acknowledged Ronaldo’s continuous support, mentioning, “Cristiano is always with us.”

Looking ahead, Ronaldo may feature in the upcoming King’s Cup match against Al-Diriyah on Tuesday. Postecoglou emphasized the importance of recovery given the team’s tight schedule.

Ronaldo’s reflections on retirement coincided with Lionel Messi’s recent contemplation about his future in football following his father’s passing. Messi, aged 39, expressed uncertainty about continuing to play, stating, “I used to just play football, but now I am unsure if I will continue for much longer.”
