“Conservative Leader Poilievre Advocates for Tariff-Free Trade with U.S.”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre expressed concern that Canadians are feeling “hurt” and “perplexed” by the sudden targeting of Canada and its economy by U.S. President Donald Trump. During his visit to New York to advocate for normal trade relations, Poilievre stated that Canada and the U.S. share a deeply interconnected economic partnership that has fostered peace and prosperity for many years. He emphasized the importance of moving towards tariff-free trade to resolve issues for the benefit of both nations.

Poilievre emphasized his mission to oppose tariffs and promote job creation on both sides of the border. He highlighted the significance of fostering a safer, wealthier, and more affordable environment through free trade between Canada and the U.S. Additionally, he mentioned his plans to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 in New York to honor the victims and showcase the solidarity between Canadians and Americans following the tragic events.

During an interview on CNBC, Poilievre refused to criticize Prime Minister Mark Carney while on foreign soil, stating that his focus is on advocating for his country rather than engaging in domestic political debates. He underscored the importance of leveraging Canada’s strong friendship with the American people to enhance bilateral relations.

Poilievre also stressed the need for the U.S. to strengthen alliances with countries that share values such as free speech, free markets, and free trade, rather than engaging in conflicts with allies. He proposed collaborating with like-minded nations to build a robust North American partnership that capitalizes on the continent’s resources for mutual benefit.
