“Canadian Flag Football Star Eyes Olympic Debut”

Sabrina Gervais, a mother, healthcare professional, and seasoned flag football player, is aiming to expand her accomplishments by competing in the Olympics. As the experienced defensive back leads Canada’s women’s team into the 2026 world championship, the goal is not only to secure a gold medal but also a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where flag football will make its Olympic debut.

Expressing her excitement, Gervais stated, “It would be realizing a dream I would’ve never dreamt before.” She emphasized the importance of staying healthy and continuing to be a team leader to increase her chances of Olympic participation.

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championship is set to kick off in Düsseldorf, Germany, with Canada scheduled to play against Panama, Brazil, and Japan. The top two teams in the championship will earn Olympic berths, with a possibility for a third spot if the United States reaches the gold-medal game as the host nation.

Canada, considered a strong contender for gold in Germany, earned its spot in the world championship following a notable performance at the previous IFAF Americas Continental championship. Despite facing tough competition, Gervais remains optimistic about Canada’s chances and the team’s ability to learn and improve from past experiences.

In addition to her dedication to flag football, Gervais balances her role as a mother of 10-year-old twins and a full-time healthcare professional. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining good health habits, including proper rest and nutrition, to sustain her athletic performance. Gervais also plays a crucial role in mentoring younger players, highlighting the significance of teamwork and unity on the field.

With a day-at-a-time mindset, Gervais is focused on the present moment and enjoying her time on the field, without getting ahead of herself in considering Olympic achievements. She believes in the power of dedication and setting an example for others, aiming to make a positive impact both on and off the field for the benefit of future generations.
