The 2026 induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed notable figures such as former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim on Thursday night.
Magloire, who enjoyed a 12-season NBA career, made history as the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011. His standout performance earned him an all-star selection in 2004 while with the New Orleans Hornets. Currently, Magloire serves as the vice-president of the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, having previously contributed as an assistant coach for the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season.
Smart’s tenure as the head coach of Carleton’s men’s team marked a golden era, with the Ravens clinching 13 U Sports championships under his leadership.
Ayim, a pivotal figure in Canada’s senior women’s national team, shared the honor of carrying the country’s flag alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
This year’s class announcement on July 2 revealed a distinguished group comprising players Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst, alongside coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. The 10-member class will be officially inducted at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
