A 75-year-old British tourist tragically passed away after swimming in the waters off El Duque beach in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Lifeguards, a doctor, a nurse, and paramedics tried to revive the man as he went into cardiac arrest but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.
The deceased, initially thought to be a 70-year-old foreigner, was later identified as a British national who had recently turned 75. El Duque beach, known for its strong sea currents and holding a Blue Flag status, is located in an urban area. It remains unclear whether the man was alone or accompanied by others during the incident.
An autopsy scheduled in Santa Cruz was set to determine the cause of death, whether it was related to drowning or a medical condition. According to a regional government emergency response center spokesperson, the man was rescued from the beach and received CPR but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tenerife had experienced previous sea-related tragedies, including incidents where individuals were swept away by waves. Last year, four people lost their lives and three were injured due to sea-related incidents near Los Gigantes cliffs, while earlier, three fatalities and 15 injuries were reported from high wave incidents.
