“British Expat Killed in Toronto Altercation”

A British national living in Canada tragically lost his life following a violent altercation with another individual, as reported by local authorities. Luke Kellett-Smith, aged 34 and originally from Woking, was involved in a verbal dispute with Benard Emeka Oneh around 1:20 am on December 28 outside a venue in Toronto. The altercation escalated, leading to Luke being struck twice and falling unconscious. Despite efforts, Luke succumbed to his injuries on New Year’s Eve.

Emeka Oneh, aged 30 and from Richmond Hill, was apprehended on the day of the incident and initially charged with aggravated assault. However, the charges were later upgraded to manslaughter by the Toronto Police Service. The incident occurred at the intersection of Front Street West and University Avenue, with the suspect fleeing but being swiftly apprehended on the same day.

Oneh was set to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre following his arrest. The relationship between the victim and the suspect, as well as the events leading up to the fatal confrontation, remain unclear at this time.

Friends and family of Luke Kellett-Smith have expressed their grief and paid tribute to him. Described as a vibrant individual who cherished life, Luke made a lasting impact on everyone he met. His loved ones have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for repatriating his remains to the UK, which has garnered overwhelming support.

In a statement, the fundraiser highlighted the unimaginable pain faced by Luke’s parents, who have now tragically lost two of their three sons. The goal of the campaign is to bring Luke back to his hometown of Woking, where he can be laid to rest alongside his late brother James, surrounded by family and love.
