Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, the Canadian beach volleyball pair, clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf. The 2024 Olympic silver medalists battled past Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure their place on the podium. Wilkerson excelled with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points.
The match experienced a pause due to inclement weather before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson faced a defeat in the semifinals, losing 21-19, 20-22, 15-7 to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta. This setback dashed their hopes of securing a third consecutive victory, but they later claimed the bronze against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann.
The duo had previously triumphed in the Montreal tournaments in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver in Paris in between.
Canadian men secure bronze
Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett of Canada staged a remarkable comeback to seize another unexpected win in the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday. The Ontario pair defeated Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen.
After dropping the first set 16-21, Schachter and Pickett rallied to claim the next two sets 28-26 and 15-12, clinching their first joint podium finish on home ground.
The Canadian duo caused a major upset by defeating the top-ranked pair, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the 39th-ranked Canadians fell short in the semifinals on Sunday morning, losing 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
