Driver Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. Jamieson expressed his elation, emphasizing that winning this prestigious race was a lifelong dream for him. The event, known for its $100,000 purse, attracts participants from various regions of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually.
Having grown up watching the Gold Cup and Saucer race, Jamieson recalled his father’s triumph in the 2006 edition with Banner Yankee, which was his favorite victory until now. Reflecting on his own win with Fifth and Five, Jamieson described it as the most significant achievement of his racing career, surpassing all previous accomplishments.
During the race, Jamieson maintained a strategic position behind the horse and driver in the first post position, staying close to the inside rail. Despite the intense competition, he remained confident in his horse’s abilities. Fifth and Five ultimately crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:49.4, much to Jamieson’s delight.
