Mike Huckabee, the United States ambassador to Israel, strongly criticized the actions of Israeli settlers who besieged a Palestinian American family’s home in the West Bank, calling it a “horrific act of terror.” The settlers, numbering up to dozens, have gathered near the residence in Qusra village since Sunday, harassing the occupants and impeding their movement despite attempts by the Israeli military to intervene. Stone-throwing and attempts to demolish a nearby wall have been reported, with the family facing restrictions on supplies.
Qusai Abu Rida, who defended the house with his teenage son, stated that they were relocated by the Israeli military to another dwelling but remain confined. The Israeli military did not confirm the relocation of residents. Loui Ridi, the home’s owner speaking from Ohio, revealed that settlers had targeted the property for months before the situation escalated recently.
The violence prompted condemnation from Huckabee, who stated that Israeli authorities had taken action to remove the “Israeli terrorists” responsible for the siege at their request. The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights criticized the actions as an attempt to force residents off their land. Israeli troops have intervened to restore order, dismantling illegal outposts and detaining an Israeli individual in the process.
The Canadian government and various human rights groups have denounced the surge in settler violence in recent weeks. The Israeli military labeled the siege as illegal and declared the area a closed military zone. However, settlers returned the following day to obstruct the roads with rocks.
