Norbury, who witnessed the demolition alongside other community members, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs and feelings of those directly affected by the mass shooting over personal sentiments.
The school, originally built in the 1980s to support the coal mining community of Tumbler Ridge, has been a place of fond memories for generations of students. However, following the tragic events of February 10, both students and staff expressed a strong desire not to return to the building, prompting the decision to demolish it as part of the healing process for the community.
Students are now attending classes at a temporary campus while plans for a new school are underway.
