Dolly Parton, the iconic country music star, is set to bring her life story to the Broadway stage with a new musical titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical.” The production, scheduled to debut in New York City on December 7, will feature a mix of new songs created specifically for the show and some of Parton’s classic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”
In a recent video announcement, the 80-year-old singer-songwriter emphasized that the musical would delve into her personal journey, focusing on her roots, experiences, and challenges. Parton expressed her excitement and authenticity, assuring fans that the portrayal would reflect her true self beyond the glitz and glamour often associated with her image.
The musical had its initial run in Nashville last summer at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, where it received overwhelming support from audiences. Director Bartlett Sher highlighted the profound impact Parton has had on people’s lives, noting the joy and inspiration she continues to bring to her fans.
Parton, with a musical career spanning nearly seven decades, remains a prolific songwriter with over 3,000 compositions to her name and has sold millions of albums worldwide.
