Samsung has recently introduced its latest lineup of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge for Apple.
The tech giant from Korea has revealed three new devices, led by the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a completely revamped design. Unlike previous models, this new version adopts a shorter, wider “passport-style” layout, providing a unique experience when unfolded.
The device boasts a spacious 7.6-inch display that resembles a compact tablet, making it perfect for activities like streaming movies, watching shows, and gaming on the move. This launch holds significance as Apple is anticipated to unveil its first foldable iPhone, with rumors suggesting a similar design choice. Samsung’s early move could give it an edge over its rival.
Apart from design, Samsung is also leading in other aspects. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the thinnest and lightest Fold model to date, weighing just 180g. It incorporates an enhanced hinge for improved durability and longevity.
The device’s larger display now includes Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for better visibility outdoors. It runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and houses a 4,800mAh battery that charges up to 63% in only 30 minutes.
Equipped with a dual-camera system and Gorilla Glass protection, the Fold 8 offers decent photography capabilities and durability against scratches. Samsung has integrated its latest Galaxy AI tools for enhanced photo editing, productivity features, and improved search functions.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is priced from £1,699 and is currently open for pre-orders, contrasting with Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, which may cost over £2,000 and is expected later this year.
Additionally, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling last year’s Fold 7 but featuring upgraded hardware. The device sports a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, an advanced camera setup including a 200MP main sensor, and a refined hinge structure for increased strength and usability.
With a 5,000mAh battery promising extended use and rapid charging capabilities, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at £1,899.
Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design while becoming thinner and lighter. The device offers enhancements in the external display, hinge strength, performance speed, and camera features.
Priced from £1,149, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 provides a sleek and upgraded folding smartphone option.
