A man who endured a horrifying shark attack was described as being overwhelmed by pain, according to one of the individuals who rescued him and brought him to safety.
The victim, a man in his late twenties, was attacked by a shark at North Steyne Beach near Manly in New South Wales, Australia, on Monday. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene shortly after 6 pm upon receiving reports of the incident. The man sustained a leg bite during the attack and was swiftly removed from the water by rescuers. He was then transported to the hospital in critical condition with severe lacerations.
An eyewitness at the scene revealed that he was surfing when the shark attack occurred. The victim went into cardiac arrest due to significant blood loss and was overwhelmed by the excruciating pain of his injuries.
The bystander, speaking to the local publication the Manly Observer, recounted how he and a friend assisted the victim after spotting him on a surfboard. They mentioned being the only ones in the water when the victim emerged through the breakers and sat on his board nearby. They helped him onto the board and paddled towards the shore, noticing blood on the board as they made their way.
Despite being in pain, the victim remained conscious but silent. The rescuer advised him not to look at his injured leg as they continued paddling. Upon reaching the shore, they immediately alerted others before emergency services arrived promptly.
The rescuer further detailed the urgency of the situation, mentioning the off-duty lifeguards and the swift actions taken by bystanders to assist the victim. Additionally, reports indicated other shark attacks in New South Wales over the weekend, including a 12-year-old boy sustaining serious leg injuries at Shark Beach and an 11-year-old boy narrowly escaping injury after a shark bit his surfboard.
