A large black bear, known as Yellow 2120, took up residence beneath a Los Angeles property for over a month, causing damage to gas lines and structures. Despite initial efforts by state wildlife officials using air horns and paintball guns, the bear remained. Homeowner Ken Johnson sought help from the BEAR League, a California-based non-profit specializing in coexisting with bears.
The BEAR League successfully removed the bear by encouraging it to leave the property. They placed an electric shock mat to deter the bear from returning. Johnson, who incurred significant property damage, expressed relief at the bear’s eviction but lamented the financial strain caused by the bear’s presence, especially after losing his job due to a previous wildfire.
Prior to the successful eviction, Johnson had tried various methods, including improvised alarms and noise deterrents, to no avail. Despite feeling defeated, he persevered in seeking a resolution. The homeowner described the bear’s presence as unsettling and expressed gratitude for its removal. The bear briefly returned post-eviction before moving on.
