A courageous woman has shared her harrowing abduction ordeal by a ruthless gang who planned to exploit her virginity and organs – and how she successfully escaped the horror.
Lurata Lyon recounted how her innocence was traded to a depraved bidder abroad, and she endured frequent threats at gunpoint while being forced to witness other girls being sexually assaulted to learn “how to satisfy a man.”
Now 45 years old, Lurata’s disturbing saga began when she fled her native town of Veliki Trnovac, Serbia, at 17 to evade severe violence in Yugoslavia during the 1990s. Following an invasion by a murderous squad, she journeyed through mountains to Kosovo in search of assistance from the Red Cross.
However, her rescue by two US soldiers turned perilous when a local interpreter alerted a fanatical human trafficking syndicate who abducted her as she innocently visited a newsstand for a magazine.
Blindfolded and taken to their hideout, she was threatened with rape until she disclosed her virginity, leading the captors to view her as a valuable commodity.
Recalling the chilling moments, Lurata revealed the gang’s threats to sell her to the highest bidder and engage her in prostitution before harvesting her organs, a reality she confronted as they reveled in her terror.
Constantly under the threat of a gun and witnessing brutal assaults, she was eventually earmarked for trafficking across the Albanian border, with warnings of violent repercussions if she resisted.
Subsequently, facing a distressing proposition from the gang leader to spare her from trafficking in exchange for intimacy, Lurata courageously refused, prompting the gang to intensify its cruelty towards her.
In a remarkable turn of events, she seized an opportunity to escape, finding keys and a gun while left alone momentarily, eventually breaking free and fleeing to safety.
Rescued by a UN police officer following a confrontation with her captor, she underwent police questioning and returned to her hometown, only to endure further torment at the hands of deceitful vigilantes posing as national army personnel.
After six months of captivity and abuse, a miraculous intervention by her father, a local doctor, led to her escape from the dungeon and eventual journey to the UK, where she sought asylum.
Obtaining British citizenship in 2005, Lurata, who authored the book “Unbroken: Surviving Human Trafficking,” expressed profound gratitude towards the British populace for their support. She emphasized maintaining kindness despite enduring trauma, highlighting the transformative impact of suffering on individuals.
While acknowledging the enduring impact of her trauma, Lurata expressed contentment, gratitude, and pride in her survival and subsequent achievements. Now a motivational speaker and public speaking coach in the UK, she serves as a beacon of resilience and hope.
