Skiing Icon Lindsey Vonn Injured in Winter Olympics Crash

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn endured a serious accident during the downhill competition at the Winter Olympics. Vonn, aged 41, was a key figure for Team USA despite a previous ACL injury before the Milan Cortina Games.

The former gold medalist was a top contender for victory but faced a setback due to an injury before the tournament. Vonn retired in 2019 but made a remarkable return after a partial knee replacement in 2024.

Although Vonn faced challenges, she was determined to compete and completed her required training runs. Unfortunately, her hopes for a triumphant return were dashed by the crash during the women’s downhill final, leading to her being airlifted to the hospital.

During the event, Vonn lay motionless on the slopes, prompting an emotional response from the BBC’s broadcast team. Commentator Chemmy Alcott expressed deep emotions, highlighting the difficulties of the course and the high risks Vonn faced due to her previous injuries.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are ongoing until February 22, offering fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. The £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription provides access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage.
