Teenage girl in Brazil poisons parents over boyfriend: Police

A police detainment of a teenage girl has occurred due to suspicions of her poisoning meals meant for her parents and cousin. The alleged motive behind the poisoning was her prohibition from meeting a boyfriend. The 17-year-old girl is said to have confessed to lacing the meals with a toxic substance identified as chumbinho in Nova Serrana, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on January 7. The toxic element, primarily used for rodent extermination, was found in the food intended for her 35-year-old mother, 41-year-old father, and 36-year-old cousin, according to the Military Police.

The incident unfolded following a dispute between the girl and her parents. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, a Military Police representative, mentioned that the family disapproved of her romantic involvement, leading to her tampering with the nightly meals. The teenager revealed that the poison was already present in the household, and she added it during a disagreement that arose when she left without permission.

The cousin, upon detecting an unusual texture in one of the meals, stopped consuming it and informed his uncle, who then alerted his wife about the altered food. The parents refrained from eating their meals, and the cousin sought medical assistance, underwent gastric lavage, and remained stable under observation.

The girl reportedly acted out of frustration due to her parents’ objection to her relationship. Forensic teams retrieved the contaminated meals for analysis, along with samples of the toxic substance. The Civil Police confirmed the girl’s detention, stating that the investigation is ongoing.

The unnamed teenager was taken to the Civil Police station with legal representation and is awaiting further legal proceedings. This incident draws parallels to a previous case in Australia where a woman was convicted of serving a deadly meal to family members, resulting in three deaths and severe illness for another relative.
