“Fatal Fire Tragedy: Bar Worker Lacked Safety Training”

The family’s lawyer claims that a bar worker, believed to have accidentally started a fatal fire on New Year’s in Switzerland, had not received any safety training. The woman, identified as Cyane Panine, was among the 40 individuals who perished in the incident. Panine, aged 24, was allegedly unaware of the risk posed by the flammable ceiling that caught fire.

The French owners of Le Constellation bar, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, are facing accusations of manslaughter, bodily harm, and arson due to negligence by the authorities. Apart from the fatalities, 116 people sustained injuries during the fire at the Crans-Montana ski resort.

According to Sophie Haenni, the lawyer representing Panine’s family, the bar worker was not supposed to be serving tables on the night of the fire but was asked to assist with the high demand. Haenni stated that Panine had not been informed about the ceiling’s danger and had not received any safety training.

Haenni suggested that adhering to safety standards and conducting necessary inspections could have prevented the casualties, emphasizing that Panine was also a victim of the situation.

The statement from Panine’s family lawyers indicates that she felt exploited and was struggling with her working conditions. They criticized the lack of empathy and understanding from her employers regarding her workload.

Jacques and Jessica Moretti, the bar owners, are facing legal actions in connection with the incident. Jessica Moretti has been subjected to a travel ban, while Jacques Moretti is in custody for an initial 90-day period. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by sparklers igniting the soundproof foaming on the ceiling.
