Minneapolis Mourns Nurse Shot by ICE, Demands Justice

Thousands of individuals gathered at a vigil to honor Alex Jeffrey Pretti, who was fatally shot by ICE agents. The 37-year-old, an American citizen and ICU nurse, was reported to have been carrying a valid license and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun during the incident. Homeland Security claimed that Pretti resisted attempts to disarm him, leading to the fatal shooting. The exact circumstances surrounding the event remain unclear.

A large crowd, estimated at around 4,000 people, including an anonymous local resident, attended the vigil at Whittier Park in Minneapolis to pay their respects to Alex. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, nearby businesses like Aldi were seen boarding up windows, and attendees took precautions like wearing ski goggles. The cold weather did not deter the gathering, with participants engaging in chants, speeches, and distributing hand warmers and hot cocoa.

Born in Illinois, Pretti, like Good, had no criminal record according to court documents. Colleagues described him as a compassionate individual dedicated to helping others. His father, Michael Pretti, highlighted Alex’s concern for social issues, particularly regarding ICE activities in Minneapolis. The community expressed shock and anger over the incident, with Jeanne Massey condemning the violence and demanding accountability from federal agents operating in the city.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the shooting and called on President Donald Trump to remove federal officers from the state. The tragic event follows the recent shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent, prompting widespread protests. The community’s resolve to seek justice and safety was evident, with calls for an end to such operations and the withdrawal of federal agents from Minnesota.
