Prince Harry has unveiled previously unseen photographs depicting his time serving in Afghanistan, following his strong message directed at Donald Trump. The Duke of Sussex, aged 41, emphasized the importance of honoring NATO troops who supported the US, contrasting Trump’s remarks suggesting otherwise. In a statement, Prince Harry stressed the need for truthful recognition of those who made sacrifices, revealing new images from his decade-long military tenure, showcasing him in full combat gear and armed with heavy weaponry.
The photos depict Prince Harry in protective gear inside a Spartan armored vehicle, handling a heavy-duty gun alongside fellow soldiers, including Lance Corporal of Horse Chris “Dougie” Douglass. Although it is not confirmed if the images were taken on the frontlines, Prince Harry mentioned in his statement the loss of friends during his deployment in Afghanistan.
Highlighting the significance of NATO’s invocation of Article 5 in 2001, Prince Harry underlined the shared duty of allied nations in supporting the US in Afghanistan for collective security. Reflecting on the UK’s 457 service personnel casualties, he emphasized the lasting impact on families and the need for respectful remembrance of their sacrifices.
Retired as a captain after a decade in the armed forces, with two deployments to Afghanistan, Prince Harry’s response stemmed from Trump’s controversial dismissal of allied troops’ contributions, sparking criticism and condemnation from allies like Keir Starmer in the UK. Starmer expressed dismay over Trump’s remarks, characterizing them as disrespectful and hurtful to the memory of those who served and sacrificed for their countries.
