Hitler’s Secret Gift Revealed: Diary Uncovers Stolen Rewards

Newly discovered correspondence and notes shed light on how Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi regime, personally rewarded one of his top World War Two associates with stolen gifts. The papers provide a historical record connecting Hitler to a key enforcer, Otto Telschow, over a span of four years.

Telschow received exclusive Christmas presents annually from 1941 to 1944, proudly sourced from foreign shipments and occupied territories during the height of Nazi atrocities. These letters, part of a recently uncovered diary revealed by the Mirror, offer insight into Hitler’s relationship with Telschow.

In 1941, Hitler gifted Telschow a package of coffee, a luxury item rare for ordinary Germans at the time. The trend continued in subsequent years with Hitler sending various items as tokens of appreciation, all obtained from abroad and occupied regions.

Despite Germany facing defeat in 1944, Hitler continued the tradition, sending a Christmas parcel to Telschow. The leather-bound diary containing these revelations emerged at a U.S. auction, eventually purchased by the Lüneburg City Archive for £6,000.

After thorough examination by experts verifying its authenticity through paper analysis and handwriting comparison, the diary was confirmed genuine. It detailed their interactions and Telschow’s unwavering dedication to carrying out Hitler’s commands.

The diary also mentioned Hitler’s injury and his unchanged demeanor during meetings. Telschow, a staunch National Socialist, held the position of ‘Gauleiter,’ exercising his authority to suppress adversaries within his jurisdiction.

Telschow, the Gauleiter of Ost-Hannover, known for enforcing antisemitic policies and forced labor, ruled with an iron fist until his death in 1945. The significance of the findings lies in the direct link between Hitler’s rewards to a regional enforcer and the implementation of Nazi terror at a local level.

While not as renowned as other Nazi leaders, Telschow’s role underscores how Hitler incentivized regional figures to carry out his brutal regime. This revelation highlights that Hitler’s regime relied not only on prominent figures but also on lesser-known regional authorities to enforce its atrocities.
