A comprehensive postmortem report on the demise of Brit Sonia Exelby has been disclosed following allegations that she traveled to the United States to meet a man from a fetish website who would violently end her life.
The body of 32-year-old Sonia, hailing from Portsmouth, Hampshire, was discovered in a shallow grave in Marion County, Florida, shortly after her arrival in the Sunshine State on October 10, where she met Dwain Hall, aged 53, the man suspected of her murder. Investigators suggest that Sonia had mental health issues and had intentionally journeyed to the US with the expectation of being violently killed by Hall, a resident of Florida.
On October 18, the Marion County Medical Examiner conducted a thorough postmortem examination, although the results were made public this week in anticipation of Hall’s upcoming court appearance in February. The autopsy confirmed that Sonia succumbed to fatal stab wounds to her torso, which were deemed a homicide.
Upon inspection of Sonia’s body, it was observed that she was “covered in sandy dirt” and exhibited discolored skin with signs of tissue decomposition. Sonia had sustained four stab wounds to her torso, with two located on the left side of her chest and two on the left side of her back.
The medical examiner estimated that the depths of the wounds on her torso ranged from four to six inches. One of the back wounds was evaluated to be between five to seven inches deep, while the second was estimated at four to six inches in depth.
Additionally, potential other injuries were noted, which might have been “obscured by post-mortem changes.” The complete autopsy report, as reviewed by the Mirror, also indicated the presence of a “dried, red-orange, ‘V’-shaped abrasion on the right side of her neck.”
The document further mentioned “diffuse dark red discoloration of the breasts around the areolas.” An affidavit presented in court alleged that Hall had filmed Sonia, showing her with bruises and prompting her to respond to inquiries about her desire to endure beatings and death.
A toxicology report conducted on October 30, and released this week, indicated the likely presence of cannabinoids in Sonia’s body, substances found in cannabis plants. A blood alcohol test revealed a concentration of 0.064.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) between 0.05% and 0.08% could result in decreased alertness, inhibition, and impaired judgment in an individual. Hall became a suspect in the case after authorities linked him to multiple attempted money transfers from Sonia’s bank account.
