The mother of Savannah Guthrie, a host on the Today show, was reportedly abducted from her residence during the night, according to US law enforcement officials.
Authorities investigating the case of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie have designated her home in Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson, Arizona, as a crime scene, suspecting that she was taken forcibly. She was last seen at her residence around 9:30 pm on Saturday.
Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that investigators believe Nancy was forcefully removed from her home, ruling out the possibility of her leaving on her own accord due to her limited mobility. Sheriff Nanos emphasized that it appears to be a criminal act.
Expressing concern over the incident, Sheriff Nanos mentioned that Nancy was cognitively sound and aware, making it even more unsettling that someone entered her home and took her without consent.
Law enforcement is collaborating with various vendors to examine security camera footage and process DNA evidence collected from the scene. Efforts are underway to expedite the analysis of potential biological evidence.
