“Sydney Teen in Critical Condition After Shark Attack”

A young individual is in critical condition after a shark attack at a renowned beach in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred when the boy, approximately 13 years old, was jumping off rocks at the shoreline known as Shark Beach in Sydney Harbour on Sunday around 4.20pm.

According to New South Wales Police, emergency services responded to the Hermitage Foreshore Walk area near Shark Beach following reports of the shark attack. The boy was swiftly rescued from the water by Marine Area Command and Eastern Suburbs Police. Medical tourniquets were applied by Water Police officers onboard the police vessel for serious leg injuries before the boy was transferred to Rose Bay wharf for further treatment by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

Multiple resources, including an intensive care paramedic, aeromedical teams, and a helicopter, were present at the scene to assist the teenage boy with critical leg injuries. He was then transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick in a critical condition.

Situated in the affluent suburb of Vaucluse, Shark Beach is well-known for its netted swimming area and open water. Incidents of shark attacks in the ocean around Sydney are extremely rare. As a precautionary measure, the beach has been closed, and swimmers are advised to avoid the water until further notice.
