Two sisters who were separated decades ago following a tragic incident where their father murdered their mother have finally reunited after over 50 years. Theresa Fazzani, now 59, and her younger sister, Janet Brocklhurst, 57, were torn apart in 1973 when their mother, Helen Barnes, was found dead. Their lives were forever changed as their father, Malcolm Barnes, misled them about their mother’s death before taking them on a five-day journey across the country.
Malcolm later admitted to the murder and served a shortened prison sentence. The sisters were separated when Theresa discovered the truth about her parentage and was sent to live with her biological father, while Janet and their other siblings were adopted.
After more than five decades without contact, Theresa decided to search for her sisters in 2025 through a Facebook group dedicated to reuniting families. Within 48 hours, the group successfully located Janet and facilitated an emotional reunion. Since reconnecting, the sisters have visited each other’s homes and maintain regular communication.
Reflecting on the past, Theresa recalled the traumatic events of her childhood and the challenges she faced growing up without her sisters. Despite the difficulties, both sisters had always thought about reaching out to each other but were held back by fear and guilt.
Now, reunited and piecing together their shared history, Theresa and Janet are grateful for the opportunity to finally find closure and support in each other. They have navigated through their past with resilience, cherishing the newfound bond that has brought them back together after so many years apart.
