“Secretary of State Rubio to Meet with Denmark on Greenland Deal”

Marco Rubio, the United States Secretary of State, is scheduled to hold discussions with representatives from Denmark regarding President Donald Trump’s proposal to acquire Greenland. Rubio mentioned to the press that the meeting is set for next week. This development follows the confirmation from the White House that President Trump intends to “take over” Greenland before the end of his term.

While Trump’s preference is to negotiate a purchase of Greenland from Denmark, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that if Denmark rejects the offer, the President is prepared to consider using the US military to secure the territory. Leavitt emphasized that Trump views acquiring Greenland as a crucial national security objective to counter potential threats in the Arctic region.

Recently, Trump faced criticism from European leaders over his pursuit of Greenland, with Denmark cautioning that such an acquisition could jeopardize the NATO alliance. In response, Trump defended his position on Truth Social, expressing concerns that NATO might not provide necessary support in a crisis. Notably, he omitted that NATO invoked its collective defense clause only once in history to aid the US after the 9/11 attacks.

In his online statement, Trump also mentioned his displeasure that Norway, a NATO member, did not award him the Nobel Prize. He warned that without US involvement, China and Russia would perceive NATO as ineffective. Despite these challenges, Trump affirmed the US’s commitment to NATO, even if reciprocity from other member countries is lacking.
