Scottie Scheffler has recently achieved a significant milestone by entering the $100 million club, alongside golf legends Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, following his impressive victory at The American Express tournament. As the current world No.1, Scheffler has sent a strong message to the reigning Masters champion that he is a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming Major tournaments.
Last year, Scheffler faced a setback when he injured his hand during the holiday season. However, he has kicked off the new year on a high note, securing a commanding four-shot victory in California with a stellar closing round of six-under 66, finishing at 27-under par.
This win marks Scheffler’s 20th victory on the PGA Tour, all achieved within the past four years, granting him a lifetime membership. Notably, nine of his wins have been by a margin of four shots or more. With his earnings from this victory totaling $1.656 million, Scheffler’s on-course earnings have now surpassed $101 million, aligning him with Woods and McIlroy as the only players to exceed nine figures on the PGA Tour.
At 29 years old, Scheffler has also made history by joining Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to claim 20 PGA Tour titles and four majors before turning 30. Reflecting on his accomplishments, Scheffler humbly acknowledged the honor of being mentioned alongside such esteemed players.
Since securing his first victory at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler has garnered a remarkable 11 more wins than McIlroy, with this latest triumph marking his seventh victory in his last 13 stroke-play events. Additionally, since his T-20 finish at The Players last March, Scheffler has consistently maintained top placements, never finishing below T-8.
Commenting on Scheffler’s exceptional performance, former world No.1 Jason Day noted the similarity in Scheffler’s consistency to that of Tiger Woods, emphasizing the difficulty of maintaining such high standards in professional golf. Despite his recent success, Scheffler remains focused on further improvement, hinting at an even better performance in the upcoming season, with the Masters tournament on the horizon.
A notable mention from the tournament was teenager Blades Brown, who had the opportunity to play alongside Scheffler in the final group. Although Brown finished tied for 18th place, he expressed admiration for Scheffler’s winning performance, describing the experience as surreal.
As Scheffler continues to make strides in his career, his determination and talent position him as a formidable contender in the world of golf, leaving fans and competitors alike in awe of his prowess on the course.
